Allotment in the middle of June

Malva sylvestris
After a very hot and dry March and an April with rain at night and wonderful sunny weather during the day (perfect for all plants), we had a very cold and particularly rainy May. In Vienna we had the highest amount of precipitation, but gladly no floods like in the surrounding areas. Still we had heavy rain every day. June on the other hand brought sunshine, heat and finally aridity. It took a while for the water saturated ground to dry out, but now we had to water the allotment for the first time since we got it back this year.

The hot dry weather led to a huge burst of growth on our vegetable plants. The weeds are growing like mad too.

Everything is growing and thriving
The second sowing of peas and beans germinated good and is growing lively.

The second sowing of yard long beans is coming along nicely
Unfortunately I had no more seeds for Luffa left, after not a single seed germinated on both the ones I tried to propagate at home and the first outdoor sowing. I should probably have kept some seeds for later instead of planting them all at once. I guess the cold and wet weather conditions haven't been suitable for Luffa. Another loss we have to bemoan is our Chayote. It grew well in our flat but didn't survive the relocation to the allotment. Should I by any chance get my hands on a new Chayote somewhere, I will try growing it again.

Apart from that everything looks great at the moment.

We harvested our first garlic.

The greens on the bulbs we harvested started getting brown. This mainly happened to the smallest and most weak plants, so I guess those had the smallest bulbs too. Three of the bulbs have been round single cloves.
The garlic tasted great as garlic beef roast :-)
The remaining garlic plants looks healthy and beautiful and starts getting scapes.
Part of the scapes we harvested and ate, the remaining we leave to get bulbils.

Almost all of the tomatoes are blooming and some already have some green fruit on them. It won't be long until we can harvest our first tomato for this year.

A part of the tomatoes is already wearing fruits
The potatoes are starting to bloom too. On the picture below, the blossoms are still closed, but in the meantime they already opened up.

Especially wonderfully looking are the tomatillos that are laden with flowers and fruits.

Lettuce we could already harvest and the zucchini will be ready to harvest pretty soon. The radishes start shooting and will hopefully provide us with green seeds pods soon.

The kohlrabi stems are starting to swell.

And we were even able to harvest our first eggplant.

To get an even better impression how beautiful everything is growing, you are welcome to watch my newest garden video (German with English Subtitles). Have fun!
